Bankruptcy question
Can back rent and fees incurred for early termination of a renter's lease be charged off in a bankruptcy? We have lived in our apartment in California for 10 years and my lease is not up until November. Finances are forcing us to leave early. Rental compnay is charging almost $4000.00 to break the lease.
We are planning on filing bankruptcy and just wanted to make sure prior to filing. |

When you declare bankruptcy you list all of your creditors and the amount you owe to each one. I know of no reason you cannot, unless the establishment has not begun collections efforts. If you are living there now, you cannot incur MORE debt after the time you file. In other words, any debt you incur after you file will not be eligible.
