Whoaa, he never showed up?? That, more than anything, speaks to his character more than you ever could have.

Hopefully, this will be a stepping stone for the future in the unfortunate event he doesn't change--you have already established yourself as the controlling parent, as well as the more stable, reliable, and mature.
