I think from what you have said, your employer made a very slanderous statement.
Can you provide any documentation? I know you may not see much in monentary gain from a law suit , but you should still be able to do something legaly to maintain your good name and and reputation..if you win maybe they could at least get him to cover court cost and legal fees!
