You didn't indicate whether or not positive or negative credit information was updated, however if the original account was delinquent or went into collections and your husband still owes on a balance, the creditor is entitled to place the account in collections yet again and enter adverse information on your husband's credit history regardless of how long ago the original account was either opened or shows a date reporting. Some adverse credit can remain on a credit report for as long as 7-10 years.

You do have certain rights under the Fair Debt Collection Law and may have options as to how the debt is collected. You can find further information about that on the following link:
